Pervez Musharraf to fight elections from NA-1 Chitral

ISLAMABAD: After getting a nod from the Supreme Court to enter the electoral battle, former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf is likely to contest the upcoming general elections from the NA-1 Chitral constituency. According to reports, all Pakistan Muslim League (APML) officials say that the ex-president will also submit his nomination papers to contest the polls from four other constituencies.The former military dictator had also submitted his nomination papers from the NA-1 Chitral constituency for the 2013 elections.The Supreme Court had conditionally allowed Musharraf to file his nomination papers for the elections.A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, resumed hearing of Musharraf’s review petition against his disqualification by the Peshawar High Court in 2013.“On June 13, Musharraf should come to Lahore registry of Supreme Court and we will pass an order ensuring that he is not arrested before his appearance in the court,” CJP remarked.The Supreme Court also allowed former military dictator to file his nomination papers for upcoming elections, but declared that the permission is conditional with the final verdict of his appeal in disqualification case.Dr. Amjad, leader of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), said that the former army chief has decided to return to Pakistan and will respect the orders of the apex court.Prior to the 2013 general election, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) announced lifetime disqualification of Pervez Musharraf. In 2016, he had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the verdict.
